Mayfair, Knightsbridge or Belgravia? Choosing the Right London Area
An honest comparison of London's three premier areas for companion services. The character of each, the kind of profiles you'll find, and how to choose between them.
If you’ve decided to look for a companion in central London’s premier districts, you’ll quickly realise that three names dominate the field: Mayfair, Knightsbridge, and Belgravia. They sit immediately adjacent to each other, share an unusually similar standard of resident and visitor, and from a search perspective they’re almost interchangeable — most established companions in any one of these areas will travel to the others without a second thought.
But they’re not identical. There are real differences in character, in the kind of profiles concentrated in each, and in the typical client base. This article walks through what distinguishes them, so you can choose the area that fits the kind of evening you’re planning.
The Geography
Before we get into character, a brief orientation for anyone unfamiliar with London.
Mayfair sits north of Hyde Park, bounded by Park Lane (west), Oxford Street (north), Regent Street (east) and Piccadilly (south). It’s the heartland of London’s old-money establishment — Bond Street’s flagship boutiques, Savile Row’s tailors, the embassies of Grosvenor Square, and a high concentration of private members’ clubs.
Knightsbridge sits directly south of Hyde Park, centred on the area around Harrods, Harvey Nichols, and the Knightsbridge tube station. It’s slightly more international and slightly more contemporary in feel, with Arab and Russian wealth particularly visible alongside the established British clientele.
Belgravia is immediately south-west of Knightsbridge — Eaton Square, Chesham Place, Wilton Crescent — and is the quietest and most residential of the three. Embassies, hedge-fund managers, and old families. Few hotels, fewer restaurants, no shopping. Just streets of cream-coloured stucco and Bentley estate cars.
All three are within ten to fifteen minutes of each other on foot, or five minutes by taxi. From a practical standpoint, a companion based in any one of these areas can comfortably meet a client in any of the others.
Mayfair: The Established Choice
Mayfair has been the centre of refined companionship in London since at least the Edwardian era. It remains the area with the deepest concentration of established, internationally experienced independent companions in the city.
Who Works Here
The companions who choose Mayfair as their base tend to be at the top of the London market. Hourly rates start around £400–£500 and reach £1,000+ for the most sought-after profiles. Many speak two or three languages, have travelled extensively, and could comfortably accompany a client to a private dinner at George or 5 Hertford Street.
This is not a coincidence — it’s market selection. Mayfair clients expect a particular calibre of conversation and presentation, and over time the companions who can provide it gravitate to the area where that’s valued. Less established companions usually base themselves elsewhere first.
What to Expect
- Hotel outcalls dominate. The Connaught, Claridge’s, The Dorchester, The Ritz, the Beaumont, Brown’s, and the Lanesborough (just over the border in Knightsbridge) are the standard venues.
- Booking notice tends to be longer. 24-48 hours is normal; same-day bookings are possible but not guaranteed.
- Selectivity is real. Many Mayfair-based companions screen new clients, particularly for longer or higher-value engagements.
Best For
A first meeting with an established companion when you have time to plan; dinner dates with someone who can navigate the area’s restaurants and members’ clubs; longer engagements or overnight stays.

Knightsbridge: The International Choice
Knightsbridge feels different from Mayfair the moment you arrive. The architecture is a mix of grand Victorian townhouses and more contemporary developments. The clientele is visibly international — Middle Eastern royalty, Russian and CIS-area wealth, Asian business visitors — particularly during summer when much of London’s domestic establishment is in the country.
Who Works Here
Knightsbridge attracts companions who match this international clientele. You’ll find a higher concentration of:
- Eastern European companions (Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian, Czech) who speak the languages and understand the cultural expectations of clients from the region.
- Brazilian, Latin American, and Asian companions who have built reputations with international clients.
- Companions who have lived between London and another international hub (Dubai, Monaco, Geneva) and bring that cosmopolitan polish.
Rates are broadly similar to Mayfair — £350–£800 per hour for established profiles — though there’s somewhat more variation. The area also has slightly more genuine availability for same-day or short-notice bookings during quieter periods.
What to Expect
- The Mandarin Oriental and the Berkeley are the dominant hotels. The Lanesborough sits at the boundary with Mayfair and serves both. The Bulgari, off Knightsbridge proper, is increasingly popular.
- More short-stay hotels suitable for outcalls than Belgravia (which has almost none).
- Some incall apartments in the area, particularly off Brompton Road and around Pont Street.
- A more visible “scene” — Knightsbridge has restaurants and bars where clients and companions are visibly present in a way they wouldn’t be in Belgravia.
Best For
International visitors staying at one of the area’s flagship hotels; clients who want a slightly more cosmopolitan profile than the Mayfair establishment; anyone for whom language compatibility (Russian, Arabic, Mandarin, Portuguese) matters.

Belgravia: The Discreet Choice
Belgravia is the quietest of the three, both literally and in terms of the scene that operates within it. Walking through Eaton Square or Chesham Place, you could easily believe nothing happens here at all. That’s largely the point.
Who Works Here
Belgravia tends to be a base for companions whose business is built almost entirely on regular clients and word-of-mouth introductions rather than directory listings. Many of the women who live here have been working independently for ten, fifteen, twenty years, have a stable client base of established figures, and don’t need much of an online presence.
You’ll find fewer Belgravia-based listings on directory sites for this reason. The ones you do find tend to be at the upper end of the market — £500-£1,500 per hour, with substantial focus on long engagements rather than hourly bookings.
What to Expect
- Almost exclusively incall. Belgravia has very few hotels (the Goring is the notable exception). Companions in the area work primarily from private apartments.
- Long-term client relationships. First-time bookings are possible but the pattern here is closer to a private practice than a directory transaction.
- Quietest area for both arrival and departure. Streets are residential, the ambient activity is low, and discretion is essentially built into the environment.
- No street-level scene. Unlike Knightsbridge, you won’t find restaurants or bars where things happen visibly. The neighbourhood character is pure residential.
Best For
Established clients with a regular companion they’ve known for some time; anyone for whom maximum discretion in arrival and departure is important; clients booking for the long term rather than a single hour.

How to Choose Between Them
If you’re staying at a specific hotel, the choice is usually made for you — book a companion who lists outcall to your hotel as standard. The Connaught, Claridge’s, Dorchester, Ritz, and Mandarin Oriental are all served comfortably by companions across all three areas.
If you’re a London resident or visiting flexibly, the question becomes more about the kind of profile and the kind of evening you’re after.
For a first encounter with someone established and well-reviewed, Mayfair is the safest starting point. The companions there are easy to research, the hotels are familiar territory, and the standards are consistent.
For a specific cultural or linguistic match — Russian, Arabic, Brazilian, Eastern European — Knightsbridge has the deepest concentration.
For a long-term arrangement with someone you intend to see regularly, Belgravia is worth considering once you’ve identified a candidate. The relationships there are built to last and the women who work in the area tend to invest accordingly.
A Note on Areas We Haven’t Covered
This article focuses on the three premier districts, but they are not the whole of central London’s companion scene. Marylebone, just north of Oxford Street, has a slightly more relaxed feel and a strong concentration of working professionals as both companions and clients. Chelsea and South Kensington lean more residential and have a younger, more contemporary scene. Soho and Covent Garden are at the budget-conscious end of central London but still host genuinely talented profiles.

Final Thoughts
The three premier areas of central London each have a distinct character, but the practical differences for an evening’s booking are smaller than the geographic distinctions might suggest. A companion based in any of these areas is, by virtue of being there at all, working at the upper end of the London market. The specifics of which area she calls home are usually less important than her individual profile, her verification status, and your own first-meeting due diligence.
